Mickey Fisher, Writing Contests and Rod Serling

Mickey Fisher is the creator of the CBS series Extant, the consulting producer for NatGeo's Mars and the creator of the upcoming Reverie on NBC. Prior to that, he wrote and directed a number of independent feature films and plays for various theaters around the country. Originally from a small town in Southern Ohio, he’s an alum of The University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music Musical Theatre Program, and a member of Actor’s Equity and The Writer’s Guild of America.

He was a recent Nerds of Prey guest and we spoke at length with him about his origins in the entertainment business, how a writing contest lead to his first TV series, why Sci-Fi is his preferred genre and his appreciation of Rod Serling and the original Twilight Zone series.

In 2016, he created a document for those curious about his journey from musical theater to selling his first TV show on his 40th birthday (and an original outline for Extant) and a copy of it can be found here.
